Competition Results

 On Tuesday 31 January in chilly weather conditions, the ladies played the third round of their inter-club competition, the Winter Blues Stableford. In third place on the day was Sue Stuart-Brown with 30 points, in second place was Gill Roberts with 31 points. Carol Whiteley came first with 34 points. The overall league positions after the three rounds are; third place Hazel Spinlove with 39 points, second place Lady Captain Sandra Taylor with 41 points, but jumping to first place is Carol Whiteley with 42 points. The leader of the cumulative score for the 14th hole after 3 rounds is Lady Captain, Sandra Taylor with 9 points. The fourth round has been scheduled for Tuesday 21 February.

Despite the poor weather conditions the Seniors continue to experience high attendance rates for their Monday and Thursday morning sessions. In the Thursday Stableford last week there were 35 entrants and John Chapman (9) took first prize with a very credible 42 points. Dave Brecken (4) pushed him hard to a close second with 41 points and Sandy McDonald (22) came in third with 40 points. Despite these winning scores the highlight of the morning took place on the 5th hole where Mike Rhodes (13) had a hole in one from the winter tee (142 yards).
 
The Seniors have a busy schedule planned for 2012 with the usual away day in the Hornsea AM AM competition on Wednesday 2 May. They have 14 friendly team matches and a double header against Ramside Hall in Durham for an annual trophy. 2012 will also see a four man entry in the English National Senior Team competition with Jeff Jones and Bill Brooke entering the pairs event.
 
Congratulations to Liam Wharldall and David Clements who won the Winter Alliance at Pannal with a superb round of 44 points, 3 ahead of their closest rivals.
 
Saturday 4 February saw the Weekend Stableford take place. After early weather reports indicated snow, players were eager to finish before the afternoon. All players made it round with the last three groups completing the course in blizzard like conditions. As for the results, Mark Adamowicz posted an early score of 39 points, however just piping him into fourth place was in form James Crowther on count-back (also with 39 points). In third place was Clayton Birchall with 40 points, just missing out on second place taken by Ann Marshall with 41 points. However, winning the competition was Steve Raine with 41 points. There were no twos recorded in the event so the funds will be split between the two Captains’ Charities.
 
The Golf Academy will be hosting a Callaway Demo Day on Friday 2 March, where golfers can try all the new products being released this year. We also have a Callaway representative on hand who will be taking bookings throughout the day for fittings and advice.
