Competition Results
In a rare mid-season respite from serious competition this week, the ladies played a fun format which was won by the strong team of Gill Roberts, Heather Betteridge and Carol Patterson. Gill and Carol recorded birdies, as did two other competitors, Barbara Jillings and Pam Dodds.
Congratulations to the team of Suzanne Robertson, Gill Roberts, Pam Spenley and Carol Whiteley who won the Salver for Best Team Gross Score at the H&DUGC Bronze Championships at Ilkley last week. This is the first time Rudding Park have won the prize.
The YLCGA Ladies A-team league players have now competed in their final match this season at Rotherham GC. A loss of 2.5 v 4.5 was recorded against a strong team but the league results overall, with five match wins out of six, remain a great achievement for 2010 in just our second year of competing at county level.
Of the four pairs competing in the District Final of the Yorkshire County Foursomes at Easingwold earlier this month, two pairs came in the top 16 out of a field of 110. Jean Lamb & Ann McKenzie and Suzanne Robertson & Nicky Pagett have now earned their way through to the final at Oakdale on 16 August.
In the July Ladies Stableford, conditions were affected by the recent spell of heavy rain and scoring was relatively low, leaving the CSS at 74. In third place on count back was Jean Brecken (33). Carol Patterson (33) was second and taking the top spot this week was Ann McKenzie with a score of 35. Just two birdies were recorded, Jean Brecken (8th) and Kate Cudworth (5th).
Rudding Park's first team campaign has now been completed with a 10-6 win at home against Masham. In the team championships that means a creditable 5th place position in the league. In the scratch league, another strong performance by our singles regulars of Kevin Parker, Phil Kitching, John MacNamara and Liam Wharldall has elevated the team to 3rd place in the table, with some results still to come in. Rudding Park's Captain, Dave Fletcher, would like to thank all team members for their support and commitment this year, with special thanks to 1st team manager Pete Brown for his hard work in managing the team and fixtures throughout the season.
In individual competitions, 6 players represented Rudding Park in the Harrogate Union stroke play competition held at Oakdale on 20 June. Kevin Parker recorded a fine 2 round score of 141 to finish 3rd on count back, 2 shots off the top spot. In addition, Rudding Park was represented by Kevin Parker, Phil Kitching and Andrew Rigby in the Yorkshire Amateur Championships at Fulford, with Kevin Parker again in good form, qualifying for the match play stages.
Our junior section represented the HDUGC on Sunday 11 July in the Yorkshire and District Unions' Junior Club Team Championship, having qualified by winning at Ilkley.
Rudding Park's first team campaign has continued with a win at home against Thirsk and Northallerton on 15th June, a 10 - 6 defeat at Ilkley on 28th June, a tie at home to Pannal on 8 July and a 10 - 6 win against Otley last week. Currently lying id-table with 1 match remaining, the team hope to improve their overall league position in the season’s run-in. Our scratch singles side continue to perform well in the HDUGC league, winning 5-3 in the match against Pannal and 6-2 against Otley, results that keep the scratch side well up in the table.
Our junior section represented the HDUGC on Sunday 11th July in the Yorkshire and District Unions' Junior Club Team Championship, having qualified by winning the Ilkley Centenerary Trophy in June. The team of Kieran McGowan, Matthew Swenson and Tom Kitching finished in a creditable 5th position on a difficult day at Brough.
The senior Stableford for July took place on Thursday, with competitors preparing for the club championships, once again a strong field competed. Trevor Rowe came in with 38 points, just missing out on third place taken by Sam Conkar also with 38 points on count back. Robert Edmundson secured second place with 41 points, just missing out on top spot taken by Hugh Warren on count back. Only one two was recorded in the event carded by Tom Clark.
Rudding Park hosted the HDUGC Mixed Foursomes on Sunday, and with course and weather conditions in good order, scoring was set to be low. For a full report on the day, please see the Harrogate Union section. However, special mention goes to Bernie and James Babington, Alice Boothroyd and Liam Wharldall (net 68) and Hazel Spinlove and David Fletcher (net 67) who won the Oakdale Jubilee Trophy. Liam and Alice also won the best gross prize (73). It is the first time Rudding Park has won the Trophy, so congratulations to all involved.
