Choosing the Format of the Day

Below is a description of the different competitions from which you can choose to create your day. Your choice will in part be made by deciding whether you wish to give individual or team prizes, the number of people per tee-time and also the ability of the players.

Individual Stableford

Points are awarded for the number of nett shots taken for each hole. By recording the gross score e.g. 5, (on a par 4 hole) the player can then check the stroke index column on the card. For example if they have a 15 handicap and the stroke index is 10 then 1 shot is received. The player’s score then becomes 5 nett 4, which equals a par; therefore 2 nett points would be awarded. Below are the number of points awarded for each possible nett score.

  • Eagle - 4
  • Birdie - 3
  • Par - 2
  • Bogey - 1
  • Double Bogey - 0
  • Competition has individual winners - 3 or 4 people playing together
  • Our recommendation – suitable when the competitors are of a mixed ability

Best 2 to Count

A team stableford competition whereby once each player has completed the hole the individual stableford points are calculated. If the hole is a par 4 and a 5 is scored, with the player receiving one stroke then a nett par would give 2 points. The points are the same as for the Individual Stableford above.

Out of the team of four players, the best two stableford points per hole should be totalled and entered into the point’s column.

  • Competition has team winners – suitable for teams of 3 or 4 people
  • Our recommendation – suitable for competitors of all abilities. Good for ice-breaking and forging a “team spirit”.

4 Ball Betterball Stableford

Two players out of the fourball will be playing together. The score that produces the most stableford points from the pairing is then recorded for each hole. The points are the same as for the Individual Stableford.

E.g. Player A scores 6 on a par 4, his handicap is 12 and 1 shot is received. 6 nett 5 for 1 point

Player B scores 8 on a par 4, his handicap is 19 and one shot is received. 8 nett 7 for 0 points

Player A’s score would be recorded and the points recorded in the nett/points total column.

  • Competition has team winners – suitable for teams of 4 people
  • Our recommendation – suitable for competitors of all abilities

Greensomes

This competition involves pairs playing in four-balls. Each pair teeing off chooses the better placed tee shot, with alternate shots thereafter. The gross score is recorded for each hole. The nett score is calculated by deducting the relevant handicap which is usually 3/8 of the players combined handicap.

  • Competition has team winners – suitable for teams playing in 4 balls
  • Our recommendation – a fun competition suitable only when pairs, rather than individuals, have been invited as only alternate shots are played

Goulash

All three players play their own ball for every shot however on the first six holes only the lowest/best score of three players counts. For the next six holes best two scores count and on the last six holes the score of all three players count.

  • Competition has team winners – suitable for teams of 3 people
  • Our recommendation – a fun competition suitable for all abilities

One Male & One Female to Count on Each Hole

A Stableford competition played with 2 male and 2 female players on each team.

  • Competition has team winners – suitable for mixed sex teams of 4 people
  • Our recommendation – suitable for all abilities

Additional Fun Competitions

In addition to the basic format of the day, we also recommend that some individual “spot prize” style competitions are included to add some extra interest. The corporate package includes three such competitions, however we are happy to include additional competitions if you feel that it is suitable.

Nearest the Pin

This competition is played on one of the par 3 holes – we recommend either the 5 th or 8 th. As standard we would propose this competition is played on the 5 th, however if you would like to alter this or add a second Nearest the Pin competition please let us know.

Longest Drive

This competition is played on one of our longer, straighter holes – either the 3 rd, 7 th, 16 th or 18 th. We recommend that this competition is played on the 16 th, however if you would like to alter this or add a second Longest Drive competition please let us know.

Nearest the Pin in Two

This competition is played on our 18 th, however if you would like to alter this or add a second competition please let us know

Straightest Drive

This competition is played on one of our longer, straighter holes, the 16 th. A rope is set down the middle of the fairway and the players whose drive settles closest to the rope (no matter how long or short) wins the prize.

Putting Competition

The putting competition is played on the putting green to the rear of the first tee. It is on-going throughout the day and can therefore be played by your guests either prior to, or after, their game, depending upon their tee-off time.
